‎The Overload Burger - Flash Fiction

‎A twisted flash fiction concerning learning disabilities

While waiting for my turn to order in this 5-star restaurant, my stares darted to this decent man who looks like he's in his mid-20sonly, taking the priority lane. He looks straight at the menu board, eyes transfixed on that overload burger yet hesitant to speak up.

‎Worried, I shift my attention to the counter lady, who seems to have her patience getting thinner from waiting for the man's order.

‎The old lady next to the man looks unbothered, understanding that the man is undecided as to which he'll order.

‎Then we heard the counter lady snap.

‎"Sir, more than 3 minutes na at wala pa rin po kayong inoorder, mahiya po kayo sa kasunod niyo. At bakit po kayo nasa priority lane?" she told the man with a hint of impatience.

‎We, the witnesses, gasped audibly. That's unprofessional indeed, but we're curious as to why he's like that.

‎"I... hindi po ako maalam magba..." the man embarrassingly spoke while giving us an apologetic look.

‎"Sa laki mong 'yan? May hindi pa pala maalam magbasa?" The lady laughed in disgust.

‎Then the old woman behind the man stepped into the conversation, looking straight into the lady's face.

‎"Serve my son an overloaded burger and a pineapple drink, Hija. Also, you're fired from my restaurant."
